either you die a villain or you live long enough to see yourself calling warden meetings
HOWDY EVERYONE (wardens) (sorry inmates you can go back to trying to concoct poisonous toothpaste), I come bearing an update on everyone's favorite piece of longform nonfiction, VOLK'S LIST. William contacted the Navarch about it and received the following response.
He'll be calling (and sigh reluctantly attending) a warden meeting. THIS TIME WE WILL HAVE MORE THAN ONE PERSON WATCHING THE INMATES DURING IT!! As far as meeting content: William would make a point of mentioning: everything pertaining to points 1, 2, 5, 6, and 7, and would encourage wardens to talk to the Navarch themselves, as well as ask their inmates about their experiences/what could be improved.
William will openly discuss a lot of this, but he's paranoid about some things and I'm a slow tagger, so if your char would be stalking the Navarch's inbox feel free to run with whatever strikes your fancy! It's all visible to wardens and there are a ton of hooks here, if it's something your char would be interested in, LIVE YOUR DREAMS (though please add a note here so everyone knows what's up/can plot with each other!).

William
- He'll contact Volk and relay everything in the Navarch's message
- He'll be posting soon (Monday???) soliciting questions inmates have for the Navarch
- He'll contact Alice and Aki (his fav disaster-causers) about the emergency access button for the infirmary, asking them to think of worst-case scenarios and probably asking Alice to be in charge of its implementation (or...lack of implementation) (he will avoid asking Claire until the very last minute because he doesn't trust her—oocly I'm totally fine with her finding out or other interested chars trying to influence people, doing research, dismissing the idea outright, etc! It's all good)
- He and Grace will attempt to break into one of the unoccupied cabins...it will go wrong...just how wrong TBD
AND SOME MISCELLANEOUS LOOSE ENDS WILLIAM KNOWS ABOUT thanks to the rng gods giving him access to both Rhys and Travis' comms while they were in solitary:
- He knows Silco gave a shiv to Travis and is 99% sure he was trying to provoke a Rhys-Travis rematch when he did it (William will be telling Grace about this)
- He knows Volk was supposed to be part of the port heist (and planned/coordinated it to some degree), he's talking to Volk about this and depending how that goes may speak to Waver

Re: William
other stuff drowned out by that part in case you want to handwave this meeting
other primary reaction:
Oh so she does meet with inmates. I am getting in there. Watch me. [does 1/3 of a kickflip and wipes out on the sidewalk]
Re: William
QUICK WILLIAM NOTES:
- He'd reproduce the entire convo for Volk (either let him read it, take screenshots and send them, or painstakingly type it out all over again...but I think the comm does screenshots)
- He'd remind Volk about the files and ask if there are any wardens he trusts (he wouldn't be fishing, he'd just want a straight yes or no)
- He'd say he's gonna investigate the cabin issue further (as well as the emergency access button)
- He'd say he found some essays authored by the Navarch in the library (h/t to Lan for inspiring this) and see if Volk wanted to read/discuss them together
- lmao he'd apologize for asking his sister's name and say he wasn't expecting to hear wardens could leave and look up family members

cw self harm
- inmate waits in there with a scalpel to knife the first person to come check it out
- inmate does surgery on themselves or something similarly horrific
- inmate manages to both get drugs / a scalpel, and get cover for drugs / scalpel, and they only find the cover
- someone puts a bomb (??) in the infirmary
- someone otherwise wrecks the infirmary / leaves it in a persistent state of disrepair
- someone presses the emergency button so often that it becomes a boy who cried wolf scenario and they don't respond to an actual emergency
- someone takes all the good bandaid designs and only the plain ones are left

cw suicide
some more worst case scenarios from aki:
- inmate steals and stockpiles shit over time, could go unnoticed if they're clever and familiar w cylindrical locks
- inmate redistributes/hides stolen shit before anyone can figure out where it went; the ship is huge
- inmate fucks with the autodoc or other equipment and no one notices until it's too late (what could a fucked up autodoc do?) (probably body horror)
- inmate just plain has no idea what they're doing and fucks themselves up with the infirmary equipment
- inmate murders someone in a stasis pod??? (he has zero concept of rp hiatus comas rn, but he's read dbz ok)
- inmate presses the button to distract wardens from smth actually pressing
- there is at least one suicidal person aboard the peregrine and a lot of potentially dangerous things in the infirmary

He may also bring up—or more likely encourage Alice to bring up—the idea of contriving some shared purposes/objectives for the inmates when there's nothing else really going on (and wardens too, why exclude anyone). Something in the spirit of Chores But That's Boring And Belittling So Not Only Chores. He would not suggest stupid team building exercises but I might be suggesting stupid team building exercises. (He was going to raise this with William directly at some point.)
V would also volunteer to ditch this meeting and instead observe inmates. Look how responsible, so selfless, wow

He'll also observe that on the previous ship, inmates who weren't interested in doing their assigned jobs just...didn't do them. And here a lot of chores are just 100% not necessary because of the tech. He agrees that the inmates need something to do, but it might mean coming up with individual tasks for each inmate so they stay engaged and actually get something out of it-- possibly off-ship more often than not. Maybe they can ask the Navarch for updates on what sorts of planets (etc.) they're passing so wardens can come up with mission ideas?
...Hey uh you want a double to come with you just. For no reason. Not so you don't look alone and easy to knock out and stuff into a closet or anything.

THAT SAID, i am ooc in favour of fun, and think there are still ways to work those in even if majority of characters would be for or against it (which i don't know! idk how we poll for that!)
if we go ahead and have folks install an emergency button it should DEFINITELY be prone to misfires, not working, etc.
alice would agree that people who don't want to work aren't going to, and doesn't think that's an issue. she supports him (him!!) being the one to ask the navarch about planets for mission brainstorming. she'll brainstorm some on-ship stuff that doesn't involve talking to their scary boss. thanks bro!!

she'll also be on board with the idea of Shared Goals, and push hard on involving wardens in them too. she'll brainstorm some given our current inmate list, and i'll probably throw up a network post for people to weigh in on
no subject
if the Chores But Not come up, he will comment that they need to give the inmates a solid incentive to do anything and would ask what people thought any of the inmates wanted that the wardens can actually, y'know, give them.

- I think the button mayyyyy end up getting shelved but if not William and I are in favor of an alert (theoretically they could make it common practice for everyone to verify their inmate's location upon receiving an alert, which might minimize Shenanigans and let the warden whose inmate is in the infirmary come running)(and also I'm in favor of annoying everyone)
- Shared purpose objectives OOOOOOH would meet with an automatic deadeyed stare before William remembered to be Somewhat Tactful. He'd briefly talk about how inmates were assigned meaningless "jobs" to pass the time on the Barge (for example: "working" at the casino with no money), and how wardens often obsessed over their assigned tasks rather than deal with the fallout from traumatic events or attend to inmate concerns. He found this unproductive AND insulting.
But!! After some reflection he'd bring up teaching inmates skills--he learned to fly planes because a warden who was a pilot ran a flight school for interested inmates (in the Barge's MUCH BETTER SIMULATION ROOM no he'd leave that out). William's awareness of the SIRE/its capabilities is still minimal because he's a VR snob, but he might suggest using it for exploration/educational purposes as well.
And he'd be fully in favor of missions--he's all for doing things that serve a purpose and expanding one's horizons beyond the warden/inmate system.

Loki
He'll note that visiting inmates' worlds for observation purposes is something he can assist with. Invisibility, glamors, etc. He can get you in and out of there no problem (probably).
As noted under Viktor's thread, Loki will suggest remote opening of the infirmary doors over blanket access, not that that's necessarily any less chaotic.
(Also, this is a good time for anyone who's made the connection between Loki and Malekith to poke him about that.)

Grace would like to quietly suggest that someone with the know-how should please fix the Destroyin' Stuff Machine so that it actually functions whenever it inevitably becomes necessary. Because you never know and the idea of being caught unawares and having to fix it last minute to destroy, idk, some kind of Incredibly Contagious Fungus or something before it escapes and infects the entire ship somehow is something out of a sci-fi movie and she's already having enough trouble sleeping at night.

He doesn't know this device but how hard can it be. Surely his new strigiformic bestie would give him a kit. Maybe the Destroy-It would become even better at Destroying It. Maybe it would also become a functional toaster. Maybe whoever broke it should have to help him.
