PORT: MEODRIOTOPE
PORT: MEODRIOTOPE

Welcome to Meodriotope. The Peregrine is due to touch down on February 11, in a stretch of land that is wide and open, with rolling grassy hills stretching as far as the eye can see in all directions. The grasses are long, about knee-high in most places, and very good at hiding burrowing holes. There's a small village around a five-hour drive west; it'll be marked on your map in case you'd like to take an expedition into town. The sky overhead is grey, with clouds on the horizon. Passengers will be here for 72 hours, so hopefully we'll beat out the rain; it can be very lashing without any cover.
It isn't exactly a huge shopping destination or pinnacle of civilization, but there's fresh air and a place to stretch one's legs. Good practice, the Navarch reasons, to test new wardens and new inmates alike — can't have anyone disappearing into a crowd, now, can we?
The Navarch will announce the port the day before landing, along with any additional details. A log will follow.
You can use this post for any OOC plotting! If you have any questions about the event, please ask here. You can familiarize yourself with port basics on our events page.
Port Statuses
Money: Wardens will have their usual spending allotment. Since this planet doesn't use cash money, they will have a variety of Earth knick-knacks valuable for their trading capacity with fish-people — dice, beads, tarot cards, ballpoint pens, paperclips; that sort of thing. (Those who have been partaking in the minibar will have less. Or significantly less. Or none.) Inmates get their usual "taxi fare" amount.
Overboarding: If your character is going overboard, they can be a fish person, an outsider living off the land, a funky rare animal, or anything you can dream up.
Cloaking: None, this round. The ATVs are uncloaked and passengers are unchanged.
Landmarks, Animals, and Objects of Interest
Burrowing holes — Beware your ankles: the fields are home to colonies of littari, rabbit-like creatures the size of labradors. They leave large holes that are easy to fall into, if you're not watching where you step. This time of year, they usually stay deep in their warrens, but occasionally they pop up to smell the wind and scavenge for edible plants in the thick grasses. They're largely harmless, preferring to flee when possible, but they may go for the calves with their large, blunt teeth when cornered or struck. (They also taste good with mint sauce.)
Lover's Kiss — These little plants can be difficult to find, as they thrive under the grasses' shade, but when you find one, you find a lot of them. Each vine has fifty or more bright, red blooms, pinched at the sides and bowed in the middle like a pair of juicy lips. The Navarch requests that they be harvested; they're used in medicines on a neighboring planet and the Admiralty has asked the Peregrine to pick some up while we're in the area. Be careful, though: if you pluck them too roughly, they'll explode, and the red markings take weeks to wear off skin, even with dutiful scrubbing.
The Fishwives' Village — Five hours west is a small village close to the shore, home to...well, who knows if they're wives, but they have fish heads and bodies with humanoid arms and legs, and they wear little robes. Kind of like reverse mermaids. They are quite small, barely reaching four feet tall, and they speak their own language, leaving communication to little gesticulations and gestures. They live in small stone huts, arranged in concentric circles with a small market in the middle, and barter roast seafood, handicrafts, crabgrass beer, and small tools for off-world goods. Most of their culture seems to revolve around fishing and goods made of woven grasses. The fishwives are fussy about outsiders and carry little fishing spears when they visit, just in case.
The Shoreline — Long, long, long coastlines looking out at the sea, with beaches made up of smooth stones. There are plenty of interesting sea creatures to see in the rocky tide pools, but try not to handle anything indiscriminately (many things bite and some of those things are venomous). You can walk a long way out before the water gets deep, but be careful and make sure you aren't too far out when the tide comes in.
Rock Formations — Weathered in fascinating shapes from centuries of storms and high winds, these formations curl across the southeastern plains. They make swooping sounds when the wind passes through them, like deep and echoing woodwinds. Suneoff, resembling cat-sized mudskippers, dwell in the formations' shadow, while the bat-like knassu nest in the better protected crannies.
The ATV Campsite — There'd be a lot of walking without the ATVs, so the Navarch has deployed them to serve as both transport and housing. While passengers are free to stay aboard the Peregrine, camping gear is available for those who would rather stay on the surface as much as possible.

Theo Crawford | inmate
Theo is still unpaired! So if there's a warden who's agree to watch him for those 72 hours, I'd greatly appreciate it even if he doesn't. He absolutely plans to be a pain in the ass and not cooperate with any wardens, so be ready for that and his inevitable escape attempt. The Navarch is probably going to need to slap on of those unremovable name tags on him that says HELLO I am a FLIGHT RISK.
no subject
Besides, can't be a flight risk when your warden chaperone literally has wings and can fly.

Waver Velvet | Warden
Absolutely living for the idea of Waver riding around on an ATV, I can't think of anything more preposterous. He's USED to be okay with all this hiking around, he's canonically in worse shape than he was just a few years ago and will blame it on being a city sort of guy (he should blame the smoking). He has camping experience as he spent a few years traveling the world on his own, but none of it involved ATVs haha.
He's currently unpaired so if there is an inmate out there that would like to go with him, let me know. I think we currently have more wardens than inmates? So if there's another warden who'd like more help, he can come along with their pairing too.
edit: oh yeah he's going to spend any time not focused on potential inmate(s) by doing some research because of course he is.
also if any Wardens want to work in shifts so the ship isn't left empty, and everyone who wants to go can!

Lucifer | Yep still a warden
Stop calling Lucifer out like this.
Fortunately???? There really isn't much of interest to him in this port. He'll definitely duck out for a bit of fresh air. He'll probably be along the beach, but uh... you might have to look up if you want to say hi, because he'll be flying with his fucking angel wings and possibly getting into it with a stray knassu. He didn't know that perch was already spoken for, it's not like it had someone's name on it!!!
If an inmate needs a chaperone, either for a short port outing or to stay with them on the ship, hit me up! Otherwise, I'm open to ideas!

and is paired with Agrias Oaks
[Update] So Agrias' player talked to me, because they plan to drop. Which means for this port Alex is effectively unpaired. Anyone interested?
Alex plans to camp if he can, and will mostly be exploring. He might try and hunt a Littari or two, just to have some food that isn't ship provided. He'll probably try to harvest Lover's Kiss too. If you guys wanna trust him driving an ATV he can do that easily. :)
I am very open to shenanigans.

☆ TRAVIS TOUCHDOWN ☆
Travis wants to see new shit and stretch his legs, so he wants to disembark, if a warden will take him. So, seeking a warden who will take him.
If allowed to disembark, you will be treated to:
- Man who really wants to drive an ATV, as it looks sick and has huge wheels and he bets you could get really high speeds in a vehicle that big with all this open land.
- The man likes a roadtrip! Let's go to town, he can dig ten hours of driving. He's chatty.
- He's a man who is surprisingly outdoorsy! He will set up his own stuff, and will help if asked. (But only if asked. And is kinda angling for a reward.)
- Campfire stories :>
- Does not give a shit about hunting but will eat weird new things if someone else prepares it.
- Will locate a stick or something and practice sword-fighting forms in front of god and everyone. (Or... Satan and everyone, I guess.) He's extremely good but there is something inherently cringe about a grown man flinging himself around with a stick, so there's that.
- Casing the place for an escape attempt. (Will be reluctant because uh... don't want to live in a world of fishwives, it doesn't have video games for possibly thousands of miles, if at all.)
If no warden takes him, he will attempt to sneak off, but if that fails (he is not sneaky) he may also spend a few days taking advantage of minimal supervision by trying to break in doors, trying to break into shit in the storage facility, and jerking off in public places.
Also, fantasy plotline here: a group of inmates band together to steal a warden's communicator to power on an ATV and steal it. This can be a legitimate escape attempt but also can just be a "fuck you, we do what we want" to wardens. Property damage ideal. Not actually attempting to escape is almost better: it can just be a "what are you going to do, leave without us?" and refuse to come back to the ship.

Anyone could catch him in the library or observatory, or sliding away from the crowd in the loading bay to be nosy about the ships and everything else around.
He'll also be REAL CURIOUS about the medical bay, for science and such. So if any warden would be so kind... letmein.gif

Grace Gibson | Warden
She is also going to be, at some point, taking the opportunity to fly. Honestly, she's desperate to get a little piece of sky to herself again. If anybody is interested in catching her out in Doing Something Weird that she definitely hasn't mentioned that she can do, please feel free!!
As far as ATVs go, Grace is Not A Fan of any four-wheeled enclosed vehicle, cannot drive, and will actively attempt to weasel out of any suggestion to enter one. This may cause Issues. Please argue with her on this point. THANK YOU.

Rhys Strongfork | Inmate
He's been discussing escape plans with Volk for a while, and has been of the opinion that trying to get away while they're grounded has a higher survival rate than aimlessly heading out into space in a cramped Arvo.
With that said he's probably going to get punished when caught so idk if he'll be doing much else depending on if he's banished back to the ship for the rest of the visit or handcuffed to a warden.

Loki
This is a pretty radical change for Loki, and given y'all don't want to leave him behind (...RIGHT?) there's going to be a few clues as to which fishwife is the Loki one:
➼ His robes are green, and Loki has favored green in all his clothing on the Peregrine. He's also wearing what appears to be a wig made of woven grass that looks remarkably similar to Loki's hairstyle, weird.
➼ He seems to be in charge of all the spears, with that being all his market stall consists of. In fact, he doesn't seem to be interested in trading for anything else either. Sharp things. Knives, please.
➼ He has the head of a salmon, if you're into Norse mythology. And identifying fish heads because wow is that generic.
➼ He just gives "this fish is actually six feet tall" energy, somehow.
The last one is a joke.
So yeah, Loki is around to serve as a particularly weird fishwife NPC and then will need someone to pick him up, basically literally, before they all head back. Probably get the spears away from him first.

viktor / warden
Viktor is:
Viktor may:
ALSO: he will be returning to the ship to sleep, unless something urgent keeps him, so if he ends up as any inmate's ticket that's something to work out.
Definitely up for stuff beyond the above. For now I'm more likely to tag around than post a top level, but may make an exception for Wish Mr. Toad's Ride Were Wilder if anyone needs that in their life.
Theon Greyjoy | Inmate
Theon is unpaired
He is broke
He desperately wants to get OFF THE SHIP and will unhappily attach himself to any warden who will get him off the Peregrine.
He'll mostly be on the shoreline because he is a man of the sea and that is his element thank you very much. He might look for an escape route and obviously fail.
He might harass the locals a bit though...I mean...they're fish people. Those aren't the merlings his family is allegedly descended from...
